What are engineering plastics?
Engineering polymers are plastic materials that have higher mechanical or thermal properties than commodity plastics such as polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, polypropylene and polyethylene.
Being more expensive than standard plastics, engineering plastics are produced in lower quantities being used for applications such as mechanical parts. Most engineering plastics have a higher strength and heat resistance than standard plastics.
Engineering plastics are being used to replace traditional materials such as metals or glass in many applications. More than satisfying the requirements of weight/strength and other physical properties, engineering plastics are also much easier to manufacture to any complicated shapes.
The most commonly used engineering plastics include polyamides (PA or Nylons), polycarbonates (PC), poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS).
Engineering plastic profiles
These materials can be extruded to form any kind of plastic extrusion in single or Co-extrusion configuration.
These profiles can be made in simple shapes or challenging shapes with multiple cavaties.
